REVEALING THE URBAN DESIGN STRATEGY
Urban design is the art of creating and shaping the cities and towns. It is about making connections between people and places, movement and urban form, nature and the built fabric. It is about how to recapture certain of the qualities (qualities which we experience as well as those we see) that we associate with the traditional city: a sense of order, place, continuity, richness of experience, completeness and belonging. Urban design draws together the many strands of place-making, environmental stewardship, social equity and economic viability into the creation of places with distinct beauty and identity. It implies a notion of citizenship: life in the public realm. It is not just about space, but time as well.

Bukit Malawati is the most recognisable places by the local people of Kuala Selangor because of their uniqueness cultural value and beautiful places to get good visual quality. This is regarding to the original topography where it is located at the highest altitude which is 3° 20' 28" N 101°14' 41" E and 279.47 m from the sea level.
The Topgraphy gives the advantage to the place as sight seeing to the surrounding of Kuala Selangor. It also kept the secret of The Royal Family of Selangor that sometimes triggered the story around locals about the sacred places there. From the certain of VOP that our team has indicate, there are numerous spot which we claimed as “ gems of Kuala Selangor” that can be referring to the magnificent which can be view from the Bukit. In addition to make the idea robust we combined the healthy living by promoting cycle lanes + pop-up library that to give away for vibrant lifestyle and enhancing the quality of life. The lanes that continously starting from the Entrance which potential users could utilise by the programme of “rent a bike” and strolling around the Bukit to Old town within 3 hours by using the Heritage Trail activities. The integration design between bike station & pop-up library is driven by the relationship of healthy surrounding and serves as knowledge accumulated for the locals and tourism friendly. On another level, the design attempts to capture and express the spatial quality of riding a bicycle in an urban setting while taking a good rest while reading something. The ability to move freely from generous roads to narrow laneways and the continuous transition between well-lit openings to dim intimate space is translated in the design. |
